What the audience was presented offered very little in terms of what the game is about, but it definitely showed enough to grab their attention. It did this by providing a glimpse of the Fire Emblem series’ most recognizable artifact, the Fire Emblem shield itself. Afterwards, there was a flash of another noticeable item from the franchise, the Falchion sword. Both of these gave away the identity of the game immediately for keen-eyed fans, as was likely Nintendo’s intent....

The Sega Saturn, while it had a wide variety of games, was lacking in specific genres like RPGs. It turns out that SEGA was working to change that, though, as a retrospective from a longtime employee indicates the company’s interest in negotiations with Square for Final Fantasy 7’s release on the system. Video game news source VGDensetsu has published a summary of an article written by SEGA creative director Yosuke Okunari, translated into English, which recounts the Final Fantasy obsession of RPG players at the time, and how securing the rights to release the next Final Fantasy on the Saturn would have driven sales en masse....

For the uninitiated, Final Fantasy 7’s NPCs of Midgar constantly react to the things that Cloud does. Whether they hear about him slaying a pack of rats or see the reactor bombing on the news, each of his (and by extension, the player’s) actions seem to have a tangible effect on the world and the people around him. Cloud, in typical edge lord style, doesn’t seem to notice or care much for how he is making these changes happen, but the player and some of the other characters do take note of it....

In Cloud’s Final Fantasy 7 recollections, he and Sephiroth were assigned to kill a monster that has been wreaking havoc near Nibelheim. When they encounter the monster, it immediately one-shots Cloud, who at that point has laughably bad stats. Then Sephiroth takes over. Steve Burton has been voicing Cloud Strife since 2002’s Kingdom Hearts, but after portraying the character for 17 years, he has been recast. In the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Cloud is played by Cody Christian, a 24 year old actor best known for his role on MTV’s Teen Wolf reboot series. New screenshots of the game were recently released as a way to hype up its forthcoming launch, but as fans took a closer peek at these new images, it’s clear that there’s some level of censorship in Final Fantasy 8 Remastered.
