Alongside this new set of events that put the game’s plot into motion, Nintendo gave fans a look at the new looks that each house leader would be spotting after the game’s time skip. It also had fans speculating which characters would end up returning and who would be playable, given the cast of students in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. While the game has already confirmed the three house leaders and new protagonist Shez as playable characters, Nintendo has placed a spotlight on two more playable characters: Hilda and Hubert.

Hilda Goneril is a student from the Golden Deer House as well as Claude’s retainer. Fans know her to be described to be spoiled and lazy, but an incredible asset to their army when built accordingly. Hilda is typically seen using an axe weapon, and Three Hopes will continue this trend by giving her a heroic relic from House Goneril, Freikugel. In a brief gameplay clip uploaded by Nintendo, Hilda can be seen using the axe and smashing her opponents with a special attack that breaks apart the ground.
The other clip uploaded on Nintendo’s Twitter shows Hubert, Edelgard’s retainer from the Black Eagles, utilizing dark magic to attack his foes. His magic seems to come out in giant waves that can also pierce his enemies with spikes. He can be seen finishing off his combo string with a darkness-based explosion triggered by a snap of his fingers.
These clips show off how different each character plays, as well as giving them some personality in terms of fighting and aesthetics. A recent trailer for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes showed that Dedue, the retainer of Blue Lions leader Dimitri, will become a playable character as well. He utilizes a more tank-like and slow moveset, using an axe and shield together. It also highlights a bunch of new and returning characters, such as Byleth in a new antagonistic role with Shez becoming the protagonist and fellow student of the House they choose to side with at the start of the game.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes launches for Nintendo Switch on June 24.
