The game picks up where the base game ended. The Great Storm has revealed an abandoned army warehouse, hidden from before the evacuation. A scouting party forms, ready to venture forth from New England, hoping to set up an outpost and provide the city with a regular series of supplies. This journey sees players take another step toward “rebuilding hope and leading humankind to survival” within Frostpunk’s world.

11-Bit Studios, however, notes that Frostpunk’s environment is still riddled with danger. Additionally, gamers will be faced with several choices: “trust or skepticism, independence or domination, union, or separation” and are asked which path they are willing to take, and how far they may be willing to go, as they experience what 11-Bit Studios promises to be a “gripping” story.

Initially announced in June, On the Edge will provide Frostpunk fans a new story scenario, additional challenges, a new map to explore, and plenty of “unique mechanics” for players to experience and enjoy. Previous releases that added further layers to Frostpunk’s world and narrative included The Last Autumn and The Rifts, both of which were included in Frostpunk’s Season Pass.

Frostpunk is out now for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Frostpunk: On the Edge releases on August 20 on Humble Store, GOG.com and Steam.
