Players who want to take their party management to the next level should always have the best tank to protect the rest of their team. With the game’s roster of tough protectors, just who are the game’s best tanks to acquire?
10 Lilith
Created out of chaos, the demon Lilith is just as proud and dangerous as her brother Lucius. While she’s the more tactically-inclined compared to her more aggressive sibling, Lilith boasts enough durability to become one of the best tanks in Brave Exvius. She’s both a decent Physical Tank and Magic Tank, on top of a Healer sub-specialization. This explains her impressive MP, DEF, and SPR stats as well as decent MAG.
Even her toolkit reflects Lilith’s defensive inclinations. She’s not a frontline healer, though. Rather, her tankiness comes from her innate ability to boost her team’s defense, be it through Specials that protect allies and give damage mitigation (Demonic Guard - Physical/Magical, Hypnotic Presence), charm enemies and decrease their resistances (Hypnotic Cry, Serpente - Kisses), and even an auto-self revive via Love Hungry (Special).
9 Sieghard & Ignacio
A unique Valentine’s Day treat, Sieghard & Ignacio enter the battlefield with roses on their hands as they try to become champions of romance. Not only does this duo make a mean Physical Tank, but also boast abilities as Physical Attacker and Support. Due to this nature, they have immense HP and equal amounts of MP, ATK, DEF, and SPR, making them a valuable defensive asset in the battlefield.

They pack enough punch and deal immense damage with Specials like Burning Desire, Love Hurts, Gigantic Hug, and All Roses Have Thorns. However, perhaps more impressive are Specials that charm and damage enemies at the same time (Debilitating Charm, Weakening Charm), massive defensive skills (Over-Protection, Pair Affair, Spotlight On Me), and much-needed stat buffs (Striking Good Looks) in the face of tough opponents.
8 Olberic
Hailing from Octopath Traveler, Olberic brings into Brave Exvius his skill with the sword and combat, making him one of the most competent Physical Tanks and Physical Attackers in the game. His stats alone put him on the higher scale of those who possess decent HP, ATK, and DEF. However, his decent MP and SPR also give him the opportunity to support himself and his allies when needed.
Olberic possesses immense damage-dealing Specials such as Level Slash, Cross Strike, Spearhead, and Thousand Spears. Not only that, but he pairs these well with compelling defensive Specials, especially damage-mitigators (Cover), defense boosters (Abide, Hard Fight), and even healing with defense boosts (Stout Wall).
7 Mont Leonis
Arda’s former kingdom of Leonis was once ruled by the Leonis family, and its ruler Mont Leonis will do what it takes to protect his realm from danger. This is what makes him an excellent Physical Tank in Brave Exvius. His HP and DEF are remarkable, especially when supported with his impressive ATK and SPR values.

Even his toolkit enhances his capacity to protect his allies. His Stone Throw (Special) is his go-to aggro absorber, which works especially well with mitigators such as Discipline, Sentinel, and Paladin’s Guard. Even his attacks deal massive damage with additional support perks, such as Body Slam removing all ailments from an ally, Power Break and Magic Break decreasing enemy stats, and Dual Twin Blade allowing him to dual-cast skills.
6 Sieghard
Prior to becoming the Veritas of Earth, Sieghard was a fighter-poet with a love for combat. And befitting his attractive nature, Sieghard loves himself and has a distaste for everyone else, making him a capable Physical Tank and Debuffer. His stats alone boast decent HP and DEF to pair with great ATK and SPR, immediately setting him up to deal massive damage.
Sieghard’s primary defensive tools lie in mitigation Specials such as Beautiful Offense, Marvelous Form II, Stylish Form, I’m Gorgeous, Sexy Smile, and Super Wink. And when enemies do target his allies, Sieghard can hinder their advance with Block Charm, and Full Break Charm.
5 Lightning (FF 13-2)
Ever-vigilant in ensuring everyone around her chose their destiny, Lightning from FF13-2 goes to Brave Exvius during her journey traversing space-time to alter the past. Both a Magic Tank and a Support, Lightning boasts more than enough MP, SPR, and DEF to hold the frontlines while ensuring her allies get the firepower they need to finish off foes.
In turn, Lightning excels in delaying enemy advances with attacks such as Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga, and two-time casting Lightspeed War Goddess. She even boasts decent damage mitigation with Immortality, Etro’s War Shield, and Goddess’s Thunder Shield. Perhaps more impressive are her capabilities of boosting her allies’ stats with Aura, Mighty Guard, and Overwhelm.
4 White Knight Noel
There’s always a way for magic and technology to combine, and White Knight Noel is proof of such an endeavor. Undoubtedly Brave Exvius’s take on Santa Claus, this character is an excellent Magical Tank and Magical Attacker with decent MP, DEF, and MAG. Granted, Noel seems to have a rather “basic” repertoire of attacks with Ice Blitz, Gale Blast, and Glacial Wave.

However, he truly excels in his defensive capabilities. For instance, Bring It On (Special) is immediately his go-to aggro-absorption ability, which can be combined with multiple mitigation skills such as Steel, Blizzard Ward, and Overdrive Activate. Interestingly, his Power Mode can allow him to cast two spells in a single turn. Despite his limited toolkit, Noel’s straightforward design makes him a viable unit for repetitive missions.
3 Hallowed Aegis Charlotte
When it comes to unique unit amalgamations, none match Hallowed Aegis Charlotte, composed of Grandshelt Knight Captain Charlotte and Alexander the Esper. Why, this unit literally has Charlotte leading an immense tower-like structure behind her! This makes the character a behemoth to deal with, boasting the roles of not just a tank, but rather a Physical and Magical Tank as well as Support.
Its full-on balance of attack and defense is evident in its toolkit. Courtesy of Aegis, this unit has innate aggro absorption with Attract Wall and equally potent mitigation through Sacred Knight’s Defense, Divine Fortress, Knight of Knights, and Hallowed Aegis’ Vanquishment/Banishment. Meanwhile, Charlotte provides meaningful attacks through Ice Slash and Holy Slash, as well as healing and buffs via Healing Glory and Machina Destroyer.
2 Alphonse Elric
Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist comes to Brave Exvius in a bid to find a means to reacquire his original body. While in this world, he’s one of the best Physical Tanks around, boasting decent HP, DEF, and SPR to allow him to take in a lot of damage before having to go down.
His specialization in melee combat is reflected in his abilities. His primary aggro-absorption is Sticking One’s Neck Out, coupled with damage mitigation skills from Defensive Cover, Rush Attack, and Solidifying Steel. When he needs to fight, Alphonse can dish out immense damage through Armored Combat, Shoulder Tackle, Rush Attack and Body Slam.
1 Awakened Warrior Of Light
When the Awakened Warrior of Light finally realizes his true potential, he’s one to ensure the forces of Chaos cannot wreak havoc wherever he walks. Such is what makes him perhaps the best tank in the game, especially with his current supremacy in both Physical Tank and Support fields. While his stats are rather middling compared to his counterparts, it’s his sheer flexibility that makes him a special case.
For instance, his Brave Presence (Special) and Vanguard Glaive (Special) are his go-to aggro-absorbers. Afterwards, he augments these preparatory spells with attacks that either mitigate damage (Guard Strike, Deterrent Sword, Protective Blade) or create barriers for allies (Guardian’s Wall Of Light), or dish out devastating damage (Buckler Blow, Sacred Wave). Even then, he boasts incredible support via heals and status cures through Light’s Remedy, Light Is With Us! 2, Light’s Healing, and Obstructing Defense. The Awakened Warrior of Light is one of the best units in the game, and a great addition to any team.
