As implied, Kitase is clarifying that that first chapter/episode of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is massive. He explains that Square Enix’s reimagining of Final Fantasy 7 has grown well beyond what players may otherwise expect from just a portion of the original game. Instead, this first, Midgar-based chapter of Final Fantasy 7 Remake has the scope of a standalone project all on its own.
Confusion has spread in recent weeks over whether or not Final Fantasy 7 Remake was still planned to be episodic, as Square Enix had only mentioned it being so offhandedly and not in English press releases at all. This appears to be why, as E3 provides an opportunity to describe why the episodic structure is still necessary and why that should make fans excited instead of nervous.
