There were a ton of exciting announcements at the Final Fantasy 7 event, including an improved version of Crisis Core and a Steam Port for the first part of the remake (releasing June 17, 2022), but of course, Square Enix delivered upon several fan requests when it pulled back the curtain on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 trailer opens by discussing/questioning Sephiroth’s endgame and his plans for the planet, while showing off what appears to be a bigger open area than seen in the first game’s Midgard. It also seems to tease more developments of Zack Fair’s new story before ending rather quickly. It’s not much, but it is a nice teaser of what’s to come.
The trailer ends by revealing its official title, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, and confirming a release window of next Winter, meaning 2023. This means fans still have a long wait ahead of them, but Square Enix also confirmed there would be three parts to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. At the very least, this gives fans some new and reasonable expectations for the second and third parts. A trilogy, probably accompanied by DLC, is the best direction for the franchise, but there’s one way some fans may have been disappointed by the showcase.
Although Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was confirmed for Steam, there was no announcement regarding FF7 Remake’s Xbox release. It launched as a timed exclusive, but it’s possible Square Enix and Sony decided to extend this as far as consoles go. Many were hoping this port would be announced there, but to no avail. Interestingly enough, however, while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was only confirmed for PS5, Crisis Core: Reunion is launching for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. So, there’s still some hope that the Remake will arrive on Xbox at some point in the future.
