The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games have been steadily releasing over the second half of 2021 and into 2022 since the remake of the first three Final Fantasy games released in July of last year. Since the batch release of the three games, Square-Enix has been slowly releasing more of the originals, with Final Fantasy 4’s remake releasing in September and the remaster of Final Fantasy 5 hitting Steam and mobile devices in October. Now, the final chapter of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series finally has a release date and fans of Terra, Kefka and the World of Balance/Ruin won’t be waiting much longer.

An update posted to the official Final Fantasy Twitter account Wednesday morning officially confirmed the release date of the upcoming Final Fantasy 6 remake. The remaster will officially release in just two weeks with the official release date set for February 23rd PST/GMT, launching on Steam and mobile devices. Alongside the announcement, the Tweet included a video featuring the iconic scene from Final Fantasy 6’s opening with the Magitek armor marching through a snowy tundra, accompanied by the game’s stunning remaster of Terra’s theme.

Fan speculation about the upcoming Final Fantasy 6 remaster has been rampant ever since the release of Final Fantasy 5 Pixel Remaster in November. Unlike previous versions of the game, the remake of Final Fantasy 6 sports a ‘Teen’ rating from the ESRB leading many fans to believe the game may remove some censorship from Final Fantasy 6’s original release. Alongside the potential removal of censorship, the upcoming remaster will also look to fix many fan issues with past versions from bugs to sound quality across its various ports.

This year is set to be a major for Final Fantasy as the franchise entering its 35th anniversary has plenty in store for fans throughout the year. Alongside Final Fantasy 6 closing out the Pixel Remaster series, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is scheduled to release in mid-March and Square-Enix has previously announced the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy 16 will receive another reveal in spring of this year. Between odes to the franchise’s past and major implications for the future of the massive RPG staple, Final Fantasy looks to keep both old and new fans satisfied throughout 2022.

Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster will release on February 23 for PC and mobile devices.
