Google has struggled to appeal to gamers with its game streaming service, but has made strides to live up to the expectations surrounding it. Stadia has finally delivered on the promise of supporting 4K on PC, which was supposed to be available on its release. With only one exclusive game to the service, Google has tried to find other ways to draw in gamers, including having exclusive content in previously released games. The Google Stadia version of Final Fantasy 15 features mini-games, perhaps to revive love for the game and to try out the Google Stadia service. However, these minigames fall drastically short of quality compared to the rest of the game. There are four mini-games in total, and can only be accessed from the main menu. These minigames include Challenge Rally, Expert Duel, Endless Magitek Armor, and Magna Flight.

The Final Fantasy 15 minigames are so riddled with bugs that one Twitter user created a thread to highlight the problems within the mini-games. The first mini-game, Challenge Rally, puts players in the Regalia Type-D, a large off-road vehicle. Players must navigate a driving course that is full of hazards, but the problems arise when any contact is made with the vehicle. The video clips uploaded show the Regalia being flipped over, flung in the air, and camera angles that could make anyone dizzy. Vehicles have not been Final Fantasy’s strong point, so creating mini-games based on the vehicles is an interesting move. Luckily, Stadia players will be able to download the highly praised racing game, Grid, as one of the free games of March.

The other minigame that features vehicles is Magna Flight. This minigame throws players into the cockpit of a Regalia Type-F as players navigate a desert landscape in order to pick up soldiers and vehicles to deliver to a base. The chaos starts when picking up the soldiers and vehicles because they all gather below the Regalia in a buggy mess of object clipping.

Despite the minigames falling short, Final Fantasy 15 still has over 100 hours of gameplay, and is still considered a quality game. Stadia players may enjoy a few chuckles trying to overcome the obstacles of the minigames still. Final Fantasy 15 may be overshadowed by the Final Fantasy 7 remake, but players may revisit the previous game in the franchise from nostalgia.

Final Fantasy 15 is available now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
